CIC Bring Your Own Technology Device Policy & Guidelines

BYOTD Requirements:

  • Students in Grades 4-12 are required to bring a laptop or tablet to school every day, fully charged and with its charger, to enhance their learning experience.

  • BYOTD is mandatory for students in Grades 4-12.

  • Devices must support the CIC blended learning environment and digital resources, including digital  research databases, and digital textbooks and learing platforms.

  • Students, parents, and staff must adhere to responsible use guidelines with BYOTD.

  • Devices must have updated antivirus/ malware protection to connect to the school Wi-Fi. The school reserves the right to disconnect any device that does not comply with this requirement.

  • Devices must meet the minimum specifications outlined below.

BYOTD Specifications:

Devices must meet minimum specifications and have antivirus/malware protection. Higher performance capacity is recommended for specific tasks that may involve 3D design and HD video and image work.

  • Laptop or Professional Tablet (e.g. Apple MacBook, Windows laptop, Ipad Pro, Microsoft Surface Pro).

  • Mac OS Ventura or newer; Windows 10 or higher with the latest updates installed.

  • Intel Core i5 Processor or better (i7 recommended for high-performance users).

  • 8GB of RAM (16GB recommended for high-performance users).

  • 128GB storage or better (256GB recommended for high-performance users).

  • 11.6" display or larger (13" or larger recommended for high-performance users).

  • Integrated webcam, headphones (with a microphone recommended).

  • Professional tablets must have a keyboard.

  • Always bring a functional charger.

  • Devices should be carried in a protective sleeve or carrying case.

  • Antivirus/malware protection must be installed and updated.

  • Active VPN software is NOT allowed at school.

BYOTD Support: CIC Responsibilities & Student/Parent Responsibilities

  • CIC provides Wi-Fi access, e-resources accounts and support.

  • CIC teachers and tech coaches offer instructuional guidance and support to help students effectively use BYOTD.

  • The CIC Tech Office offers BYOTD tech support within established parameters: Level 1 device troubleshooting and solutions; for more serious issues, students/parents need to seek of-campus device support).

  • Students/parents are responsible for BYOTD care and maintenance (antivirus/malware protection , updates, daily charging, protective case, power supply, and headphones).

  • Students/parents are responsible for BYOTD safety, transport, warranties, and insurance.

  • Note : CIC is not responsible for lost or stolen devices. Students must keep their devices secure and should not leave them unattended. Unattended devices will be sent to the Lost & Found section or divisional offices.
